I gotta say, if you had asked me a year ago, I probably wouldn’t have considered it. But, I’ve been feeling more nostalgic lately: maybe it was watching Atomic Blonde on the way back from Miami last month, (can I just say holy sh*t… Charlize is so freaking badass. Kinda fell in love, not gonna lie). Also, Blue Monday has got to be my theme song for life and listening to it and the rest of the soundtrack had me reminiscing back to days of stirrup pants, Cotton Ginny, big frizzy hair with bangs teased to the moon; Blondissima smell and of course, my fluorescent nylon fanny pack carrying flavoured cherry lipgloss.. and probably a comb for bang touchups.

I first caught glimpse of this returning trend on Pinterest and fell in love immediately. I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to fashion week street style and in my stalking, I fell in love more. omg.. there are some BEAUTIES in the belt bag department. Like colourful, retro gum drops waiting for me to choose… my mouth has been seriously watering. I have my eye on one in particular and after trying a few on I almost gave up. At my 5’ stature, they just didn’t seem to work. Until one day I walked into a Gucci boutique and spied the small Marmont belt bag in black velvet. I had admired this bag in pink on Pinterest.. and here it was in front of me and oh so miniature! Could it work?
Now, I’m not a big fan of the Marmont line.. I’m not sure why, but something about the big GG on the front and maybe the fact that I see them everywhere, just doesn’t excite me. Too girly or something. But as soon as I attached that little bag to my waist my mind immediately started constructing outfits I could create. And the colours —the pink velvet is stupendous, but the practical girl in me thinks the black would be the smartest.
What do you guys think? Belt bags over 40? Too trendy or just right to define the waist and keep our iphones, lipstick and random lego pieces secure? Which are your favourites? Regardless, I’m all in.
